Northwest Houston is another high-growth area, with homes ranging in price up to $2 million. The completion of the Sam Houston Tollway, the upgrading of Hwy. 6 and Farm Road 1960 and improvements to Hwy. 290 have opened up accessibility to the region. This area is attractive to employees of local energy and chemicalcompanies located on the west side. Northwest residents appreciate the present and future freeway improvements aimed at facilitating travel in this high-growth region.
Many of the older neighborhoods, including Champions, Champion Forest, Huntwick, Wimbledon Estates and Spring Creek Oaks are attracting professional couples who are intrigued by the tree-lined streets and easy commute to downtown. Prices range from $100,000 to over One Million Dollars. Klein School District is one of the highest rated districts in Texas.
Another major area of the northwest is Cypress-Fairbanks, demarcated by Highways 249 and 290. Lakewood Forest, a bedroom community of mainly single-family homes, sprouted up around HP/Compaq Corporation, which is now one of the world's leading manufacturers. Wortham, Coles Crossing, Stone Gate and Canyon Gate are examples of some of the newer communities.
Making up the third area of the Northwest is the area of Highway 249 (Tomball Parkway). Gleannloch Farms is a master planned community featuring a golf course and equestrian center. Easy access to the Sam Houston tollway make neighborhoods in this quadrant desirable. Homes are priced from the $150s to more than a million.
